Tuareg veil key
Veil key or Asrú N'swoul –Tuareg– (Agadez region, Niger)
The veil key is the accessory that any Tuareg woman who can afford it will wear with pride. It is a pendant that is tied to the veil to prevent the wind from lifting it. It is, therefore, a counterweight that the silversmiths of the Adrar of the Ifoghas usually make with brass and copper, but that those of the Air prefer to make with patience, talent and low silver.
The one we show is made in Air and takes the shape of a Barchekeia Cross in which its female half acts as an articulated hook; At its base a tweezers, with which its owner can extract those annoying thorns that desert plants hide, hides an awl. It is signed by its author.
