Tchatchat
That small silver triangle, decorated with engraved triangles and aquatic motifs that hangs from any Tuareg jewelry, receives the sonorous name of Tchatchat. Some (the most imaginative and modest) say that it is a woman seen from behind; others (the most daring ones) claim that it represents the inguinal triangle of that same woman... In any case, it is a feminine symbol chiseled to make a woman more attractive, thereby promoting her fertility.
In the necklace that we show in the photograph, five sterling silver Tchatchat have been mounted, separated by small red beads made in Bohemia and six elongated silver separator beads known as Tchidufén.
